Hi! I’m Ella

I offer psychotherapeutic counselling for adults in Penrith and online across the UK. Mess is very welcome here. Tired, tangled and stuck or wondering where to start? We can begin right there.

My approach is warm, thoughtful and direct. I bring over 20 years’ experience in advocacy, domestic abuse and trauma-related work, helping people make sense of what’s happening and notice patterns that hold them back.

I work pluralistically and integratively; we agree what you want from therapy and keep checking whether it’s helping. I often draw on Transactional Analysis, psychodynamic and existential therapy but I may bring in elements of various types of therapy that I think might be right for you in that moment.

I’m feminist and trauma-informed, and I take power and social context seriously. Distress can be an understandable response to difficult circumstances. Sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, classism, stigma, poverty and coercive relationships all deserve attention in the therapy room.

I’m also sex-positive and kink-aware. Sex, desire (or lack of it), porn, shame, identity, BDSM, power play, sex work and non-traditional relationships are welcome topics. I’m interested in your experience, values and wellbeing, without assuming that difference means dysfunction.

If you’ve felt shamed, silenced or misunderstood by services, I aim to offer respectful curiosity, clear boundaries and room for the real, unvarnished, unedited version of you. Dark humour and colourful language included.

I handle painful feelings with care, and I’ll be honest with you. If I think something is keeping you stuck, I’ll bring it up so we can explore it together.

Fancy a proper conversation? Contact me to arrange a free 15-minute Zoom call.

Send me a hello. We’ll take the conversation from there.
